The webinar host is often a good and welcome addition to a professional webinar. The broadcast gains momentum, the speaker feels more at ease and can fully focus on his or her own presentation. But what exactly does a host do? And what situations lend themselves well to presenting with a host?
Task and role
The host of a webinar has a broad responsibility. At the start of the webinar, he provides a powerful introduction. This ties the participants into the webinar from the start. The host then leads the discussion and asks the right questions in order to keep the conversation going and to keep the interaction with the participants on the right track. In order to properly pass these questions on to the speaker, it is important that the host is familiar with the subject of the broadcast. So reading up is an important part of the preparation. In short, using a host has several advantages.
Why host a webinar?
But the three most important reasons for using a host are:
- A host creates more dynamics in the webinar. This is enjoyable to watch and therefore ensures retention and involvement of participants.
- The speaker does not have to multitask during the broadcast with viewing and dealing with incoming questions and poll results. He can fully focus on his presentation.
- A good speaker is one of the most important elements of a successful webinar. A bad speaker will quickly lead to participants dropping out. A host has experience with presenting in front of the camera and also makes a less good speaker feel more at ease.
When to use a host?
A host can be used in all kinds of webinar situations. A ‘talking head’ (just a speaker doing his story) is often not very interesting to watch. Dynamics. Different shots. Different faces. These are elements that add something to a webinar. A host is also useful when the organisation itself does not have a content expert with sufficient presentation skills.
We are of course able to advise you on which host is best suited to your webinar broadcast.
Currently we regularly work with the following webinar hosts:
- Arthur de Leeuw
- Maartje Hofhuis
- Diana Graus
- Judith de Bruijn
