The fact that the world is shifting more and more online is no surprise anymore. It is therefore a logical outcome that more events and communication take place through online channels. Based on 30,000 webcasts and webinars organised in the last two years, research by Arkadin shows how the shift from physical to digital events took place.
Webinars and webcasts for events
Physical events are increasingly replaced by digital. Communication with customers, prospects, employees or other stakeholders is also more and more through online channels. A very popular way to communicate with the various stakeholders is a webinar or a webcast.
Webinars and webcasts are used for many different purposes such as marketing, internal and external communication, training and education and for investor relations events. Both can be joined online, but the biggest difference is that there’s a physical audience present at a webcast. A webinar, on the other hand, is recorded in a professional studio with a green screen, without an audience at the recording.
Arkadin’s most recent research about…
Arkadin conducted research among 30,000 webinars and webcasts that were organised in the past two years between November 2015 and 2017.
Arkadin researched:
- Who uses digital events
- What they use digital events for
Research results – who uses digital events
Arkadin’s research has shown that there are four main industries that use digital events. In first place, “Banking & Finance” with 32% followed by “Professional Services” with 11%, “High Tech & Electronics” with 8% and “Healthcare” with 6%.

Although “Healthcare” has taken fourth place, the growth in the use of digital events in this sector has increased by 30% in one year.
Furthermore, Arkadin researched for which formats digital events are most often used. Research has shown that webinars are most used for four formats: Marketing, Internal Communication, Investor Relations and Training & Development. Below you’ll find the results.

The enormous growth of digital events continues
Other notable figures from the survey are the fastest growing purposes which webinars or webcasts are used for. The use of webinars and webcasts for training & education has increased by as much as 148%. A webinar or webcast can be a good replacement or addition of lectures and an ideal solution for students living outside the city. In addition, it is now even possible to test students, for example, to test whether they have actually followed the lecture. This is possible with the newly integrated test function within the Company Webcast platform. Would you like more information about this test function? Please contact us.
