Peer-to-peer webcast solution to reach 20,000 employees
Deutsche Telekom is one of the world’s leading integrated telecommunications companies, with some 178 million mobile customers, 28 million fixed-network lines, and 20 million broadband lines. For Deutsche Telekom, livestreaming is becoming increasingly important to communicate with employees about products, technologies, organizational- and strategic topics across the whole Deutsche Telekom Group.
Mr. Alexander Olschok, IT Project Lead at Deutsche Telekom: “Livestreaming is a new way of communication within a big company like Deutsche Telekom. Every employee, every unit should be able to get new information in particular for those which are not working at the core locations/offices”.
Webcast and webinar vendor selection process
After a careful thorough selection process in which Deutsche Telekom started with 18 different webcast and webinar service providers, they made a short list of webcast vendors based on their technical and commercial skills and proposition. Finally Deutsche Telekom selected Company Webcast as their preferred webcast supplier. “Company Webcast was able to outrun all competitors on both technical- and commercial scope”, comments Alexander Olschok. Company Webcast will provide livestreaming and webcast technology with an integrated peer-to-peer distribution facility to Deutsche Telekom for the next three years (2019, 2020 and 2021). Deutsche Telekom will be able to produce webcasts, interactive webinars and livestreams all by themselves. Deutsche Telekom estimates to produce 60 to 100 live events each year.
Integrated Peer-to-peer streaming technology
As Deutsche Telekom wants to reach more and more employees with livestreaming in the coming years, they were looking for a new corporate webcast platform that was highly scalable and had peer-to-peer technology integrated in the webcast platform. Although Deutsche Telekom already had a webcast platform in place, they were looking for a new webcast supplier due to high operational effort when producing a webcast and to security limitations. The top-5 reasons for Deutsche Telekom to choose Company Webcast as their new preferred webcast provider were: service deployment within AWS, Scalability, Covering all Deutsche Telekom workplaces (also with Microsoft Browsers), The integrated peer-to-peer distribution and the Pricing of the complete technology. Also the Usability of the webcast platform was highly appreciated.
Why choose Company Webcast as webcast supplier?
Deutsche Telekom IT was involved foremost by configuring the corporate network to use peer-to-peer respectively WebRTC technology and by rolling out the Company Webcast protocol handler (CVS tool) for all DT workplace clients across the world. In this way also Microsoft Browser, who lack the WebRTC technology, could join the peer-to-peer distribution of a livestream. Alexander Olschok: “because of the easy to use cloud service of Company Webcast, we produce the webcast of Deutsche Telekom internally. The previous webcast solution was on premise and livestreaming was configured by Deutsche Telekom operations. Before we had high operational efforts to produce a live webcast. Also in comparison of our old webcast platform, we now being interoperable on all client platforms, covering mobile devices and offering livestreaming on an international scope.
I would definitely recommend Company Webcast to other companies. The interworking with, in depth webcast knowledge and technology of Company Webcast is a great Experience. My tip for other companies that are thinking about livestreaming is to start with the viewer in mind and not the solution itself!”
